This week, June 15, 2015 we feature Sue Johnson of Live Love Bark Dog Rescue, Inc., (LLB).  Check out our fun Q&A interview with Sue about LLB and her experience in the Pet Industry: LLB is a non profit organization that works directly with Islip Animal Shelter to help train and prepare the homeless dogs for life outside the shelter. Teaching them their basic commands and how to behave, makes them more appealing to potential adopters. How long have you been in the Pet Industry? Two years What drew you to the Pet Industry? My love of animals The best thing about your experience so far? Seeing a long timer at the shelter, who had an unpleasant home life, find his awesome forever family. Are you a solo petrepreneur or do you have employees? We have an amazing group of volunteers If you could change/add/create ONE thing in the pet industry what would that be? That all the rescue groups would work together toward our common goal; not bash other groups. What is the most interesting thing about your business or rescue group? Our volunteers - they are absolutely amazing (and dedicated)! Do you set goals for you business? Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly/Yearly? I would say quarterly Do you remember the last time you had a weekend off? No Do you regularly take vacations? No Your biggest complaint about the industry? None so far; other than my regular paying job interfering with my fun! lol How many pets did you treat last week? Or pet clients did you cater too? 18 What is your advice to a young person joining the pet industry? Enjoy - do what you love and don't let anything or one stop or discourage you. Your favorite thing about your customers (i.e. pet parents). their love of their fur babies What is the best thing you have done for your business to help you grow? Put myself out there and met new people. This was huge for me. When did you realize that this industry was more fun/rewarding/compassionate (add your own!) than a previous industry you may have worked in? Immediately upon forming LLB with my partners If you weren't in the pet industry - what other profession would you love to do? Marine biology What is your favorite cocktail of choice? Malibu rum and Gatorade Favorite book/movie/TV show? Criminal Minds Most amazing place you have been to on planet earth? Yellowstone Favorite meal? Anything seafood When you were a kid, and someone asked, what did you want to be when you grow up? What was your answer? Veterinarian so I could ride horses all day.
